Blood Bank collects plasma for COVID-19 treatment

The Blood Bank of Hawaii (BBH) has formed a healthcare coalition to collect plasma from patients who have recovered from COVID-19 to treat seriously ill patients in hospitals throughout Hawaii. COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP), has recently emerged as a potentially promising early therapeutic option, and a national clinical trial is currently underway. A statewide coalition of the major hospital systems, including The Queen’s Health Systems, BBH, Hawaii State Department of Health, and other groups has formed to participate in this national trial and enable local patients to receive this experimental treatment.
